We strive to protect and improve both the natural and social environment, creating conditions that meet the biological and social requirements.

Since June 2014 the enterprise is  certified according to ISO 14001:2015  which proves our principles on the environment and its preservation.

The Environmental  Requirements related to extracting alluvial material from the bed of the Danube are expressed in regulating  the extraction through permitting regime according to  the current regulations.

Extracting action and protecting the environment

Air

In many cities the  industrial enterprises have a negative impact on the air quality and contribute to the presence of dust   matter in it  above  legal limits. In the derived by us  inert materials  there is no process that affects in any negative way the  air , - the enterprise has no facilities which  separate mineral dust. The inert materials  (sand fraction) are extracted  and transported damp, which does not premise  any spreading  of dust.

Our ships have been modernized and meet all European Standards, which on its part  guarantees minimum emissions into the environment.

Water, Soils and Earth Womb

Danube has a high water amount , as annually it  superimposes tens of millions of tons of floating and bottom silt / sand, gravel, silt /. In periods of low level of the river, in drought and at a lower speed of the water there are  prerequisites for the accumulation of alluvial deposits in some areas of the river. Their depositing reduces the depth in some areas, leads to  occurrence of shoals and rapids,  and slows the water flow. Consequently, the reduced section and patency of the river stretches  has a negative impact on the navigation.

Significant amounts of sediments are deposited around the islands, especially in  the sleeves between them and the riverbank. At high water levels there is  a risk of backing up, increasing the erosion and flooding the coast due to the abrasiveness of the water  with sediments.

Danube is dynamic , - rapidly and permanently altering  its morphological structure, continuously washing  away and flooding  the formed islands  as a result of which the deep zones move regularly, so the dredging operations in it are important for the maintenance of its hydrological regime.

The extraction  of alluvial deposits from the bed of the Danube improves the  navigational routes and contributes to free fish migration. The extraction of materials leads to improved conductivity of the river ,  prevents flooding of its banks and increases their erosion.

The extracting activity performed  by us  is in the lower reaches of Danube, where the water speed is lowest and where the most common water levels are formed. As a consequence, vitally important, positive effect on the extraction  of inert materials is also the  subsequent aeration of the water, which occurs as a result of the processes of scooping, extracting and mixing the  sediment deposits in the river.

Protected Zones and  Biodiversity

The preliminary identification of  the section of extraction ensures that the deployment of vessels does not disturb the peace and does not affect the habitats of protected species.

We use the safest and most environmentally friendly method of removing the alluvial materials which technological process is carried out  by multi-bucket dredger. Its design consists of buckets  allowing water leakage by scooping  and removing the  alluvial materials and the possibility of slipping  of  accidentally caught fishes.

Reducing the factors  /waste, noise and vibrations/ having harmful affect on the environment

The waste generated by the overall activities of the enterprise are domestic and industrial - / paper, plastic, metal, etc., formed as a result of repair work on machines and equipment /.

The household waste is  collected in suitable containers and transported by a company having appropriate authorization document.

The industrial waste are formed only on the bank  /on the port and as a result of the administrative activity /. Their collection is carried out separately and is in accordance with the internal company rules and relevant normative  regulations.

The company monitors and controls strictly the noise and the vibration which are mostly caused by work activities of vessels -/ ships and dredgers /. The engines of the vessels available in Polaris – 8  Ltd. are of silent type. Plastic rollers of belt conveyors are used  instead of metal to reduce the noise during operation of the dredger . Thus, the noise discharged  in the environment  during  the work of the dredger is much lower than that by the use of metal rollers.
